I tried, I really did. I think this book has a great story, but the author takes the most painful way of telling you possible.

Beautifully written but really slow to get through the pages; not a page turner. If you enjoy savouring on the artistically crafted language, this is the perfect book for you.

Some of these quotes and one-liners! So great. It's too bad I didn't like the rest of the book. When it faded from intellectual to pedantic or overdone, I stopped paying attention. I didn't attach to any of the characters or the story, either. I was mostly confused while reading this. Confused about what was happening and what was the purpose.

Beautifully written. But the story itself flew over my head. I felt that I was not the intended audience for these kind of books.

My mother recommended this to me, she never actually read the book, but she said the movie is one of the most beautiful love stories. I read the book and did see the movie.
My thoughts:
The prose is beautiful, the descriptions are so vivid and beautiful and I honestly could read them alone.
The plot is boring, luckily it's not linear otherwise it would be even more boring, this way we have at least a little mystery. I wouldn't say that this is a book about love, but about lust, and I didn't really like that.
