A Daily Mail style dystopia. The old people of Britain are being oppressed! It must be Nazis. And lo, it literally is.

Yes, the Nazis are in charge and now the people of Britain are no longer allowed to reminisce about the good old days of the war, plus they are even coming for your literature! I mean, it only impacts books written in English by famous white authors, as it seems nobody in this world cares about anything else, all other books are just banned, and that's fine apparently. To give you an idea of how far things have gone, in this world, you can't even say how great Churchill is nowadays!

Perhaps I am unfair as it is well written, the characters are interesting and the world building is effective. The problem I had was that I could not give a shit about changing the end to Jane Eyre, when the Nazis were dealing death and destruction all around, and I could not understand why the characters did care. I wanted the book to focus on literally anything else.

To be fair to the author, perhaps it's an extremely subtle satire about those people who get really wound up about changing classic literature when the rest of the world is going to hell, in which case, you got me, I'll give it 2 stars. If not, then as you can probably tell, this book really annoyed me.

I enjoyed reading this book, but I was a bit unsatisfied by the ending. It is a series, so the semi-cliffhanger is forgivable, but my other quibble is that the relationship between Rose and her love interest isn't really given time to develop before it becomes True Love.

C'est dommage que ça se finisse comme ça, la fin est trop abrupte. J'ai l'impression qu'il n'y a pas de conclusion.
