I wish it wasn't abridged, it's all my library has though

Short and sweet, some scenes were word-for-word from the movie. After having seen the movie over and over and over, I found this rendition a bit boring. I did enjoy the underground zoo, but other than that, the movie is better. (I never say that! But, this is an abridgment of Goldman's original abridgment so it's not really that surprising).

Listened to the abridged audiobook because that's all I could find on my library app. I think there was a lot of the story missing, as it was only 2 and a half hours long.

So for now it gets 3 stars, would probably be more if I had the whole thing :(

The Princess Bride is split into two parts. The first part is about the 'author', his family, and the quest to find the book (or abridge it in this version). The second part of the story is about Westley, Buttercup, and the rest of the gang.

I tried to read and listen to the unabridged version, but couldn't get through the first part. It was a drag. So I was happy to find this abridged (good bits) version read by Rob Reiner (director of the movie).

I didn't like the writing, the characters, or the narration that much. The narration was partly because of the writing and partly because of the audible breaths.

The writing wasn't that great. First the short sentences. Made for jarring listening. It also seemed quite old-fashioned. Then the dialogue. It was just so cheesy.

I didn't like Buttercup. She was such a (stereotypical) blonde. No brains and all beauty. Plus she was treated as an object/possession throughout the book. Not sure I really cared much for Westley either. I did love Inigo and Fez.

I am glad I read this book once in my life. I probably won't re-read it again. I'd rather watch the movie, which is much better.
