(Re-read)
The good: Love the use of multiple sources/perspectives to tell the story, keeps the pace moving and helps to keep the title character mysterious. Similarly to how Dracula feels like a study of vampires, Carrie feels like a case study on telekinesis where the reader is piecing the story together bit by bit like a detective.
The Bad: The random “cutscene” feeling bits where it takes on a more traditional narrative to fill in timeline gaps is a little jarring. I wish our insight was limited to the excerpts, interviews, studies etc. that make up the other 75% of the storytelling.
The Ugly: This story mainly focuses on female characters, and there’s tons of reference to menstruation, body image, abusive relationships etc from the female perspective. To be clear: there’s nothing wrong with that alone (DUH). However, I personally find it impossible to ignore how obvious it is that this was written by a man- and it gets worse the further on it goes.
Overall I’d highly recommend! One of my favorite King stories. It’s a classic for a reason!

Loved it. My heart ached for so many characters, including Carrie herself
