I was struggling with this one. I thought it started okay and then the middle was just too rushed, but that ending. The last chapter saved it a little for me, it was twisted and dark.

Spanish/English Review.

Otra historia un poco innecesaria. Lo pondre todo bajo spoiler.

Spoiler

Another unnecesary story. I'll leave it all under spoiler.

Spoiler
We're shown the same nurse from the prequel, which i did like, as well as some other characters like the infamous Warden and Lucy, Abby's aunt. About Lucy, I think it was somewhat clickbait given that she is the cover of the first novel and showed a lot of promise from the author, but fell flat to focus on other plot points. I guess this novel was to give these character some more spotlight. It just didn't seem like a great thing and didn't make much sense after Sanctum and Catacomb.

The Warden was practically famous during his time at the Asylum. Two nurses are happy to find themselves employed there. But one will find out that the Asylum is not what it appears to be. There are many practices going on behind closed doors. Patients that normal staff is not permitted to see. Can she survive knowing the dark secrets she uncovers?

I really did like this book. I will not be bashing this book at all. I can't say it was my favorite of the Asylum series, to be honest. But I did enjoy it. I always wondered what happened dear the time the Asylum was open. I wondered how he was able to hide all his experiments from everybody without raising suspicions.

I think maybe that's the reason I can't say I fully enjoyed this book. I was expecting a bigger production. To me, the book fell rather flat and didn't offer the background that I was expecting. I was expecting a lot more spook and flair. A lot more background than a mere skim of the events surrounding it all. I don't mean to be overly critical. It just didn't work for me.

Despite that, I do recommend this book. I recommend reading all of the Asylum trilogies. It's definitely one of my favorite trilogies of all times. Even though it's not one of my favorites of the entire series, it is definitely worth the read. The little bit of background makes it worth it alone!

Hmm...I know this is a novella, but the story ended quite abrupt. It didn't wrap itself up at all, and I'm quite upset. The story was getting rather interesting and now I'm just left with wondering what happened.

It has connections that are made in the 3rd installment [book:Catacomb|23429355] so that was nice. I was able to notice them right away. But this could also be a standalone story as well.

The part that really has me vexed is the ending. It was an introduction of characters, a build up to interesting events, exciting plot parts happen, and then it just . . .

If you like the series, the novellas are so much worth it. It expands and explains things not said in the books.
