“Grief is just love looking for a place to settle.”

After a sleepless night filled with tears, I find myself compelled to articulate my thoughts on a book that unexpectedly became the highlight of my week. I approached it with skepticism, given its weighty subject matter, but the author managed to weave a tale that was both tender and heartwarming, defying my expectations.

The protagonist, Clover, a death doula well-versed in thanatology, navigates the complexities of her profession with grace. Having lost her parents at a young age, she was raised by her educated grandfather. As she fulfills the dreams of those on their deathbeds, Clover clings to their advice, regrets, and the memories forged in their intimate final moments. This narrative unfolds as the journey of a vulnerable woman transforming into a better version of herself, unlocking opportunities for love, happiness, and heartbreak.

The book encourages us to be there for our loved ones, creating a safe space for conversations about this natural part of life. It prompts reflection on the inevitability of death while posing a profound question: How do we live a good and beautiful life?

What a joy to read a book about a profession as intriguing as this. A day in the life of a death doula stiles so many emotions! It changed me so I gave it 5 stars.

everything seemed too staged, too predictable. did not fully engage with clover at any time :/ i think it could have been way more interesting since her job was so unique.

The Collected Regrets of Clover is a beautiful book, it had me gripped from the first page to the last as we follow Clover in her job as a Death Doula. Due to not being upset when her teacher died whilst teaching his class, losing her parents at a young age and living with her grandfather Clover has removed herself from life. She is unable to forgive herself for not being with her grandfather when he died. She works as a death doula as penance and does not make any friends. All this changes when a new neighbour moves in, Sylvie forces Clover to go out and try new things with her and to be her friend.

Clover also meets a potential boyfriend at the death cafes she goes to. He hires her to help his grandma who is dying and her friendship with Claudia also helps Clover overcome her regrets and go out and embrace life. I don't want to say much more as it would spoil the book but it truly was uplifting and a call to go out and live your life to the fullest so that you have no regrets when it ends
