This is my new favourite book. It has no flaws. I will be rereading it immediately. I will also be purchasing a physical copy, ebook, and audiobook.

Anyone who disagrees with me: respectively, you're wrong

I sort of started this under coercion (fulfills a reading challenge prompt + wanted to see what all the fuss was about), but I was delightfully surprised by this one! I still wish romance novel characters could just COMMUNICATE, but I get there wouldn’t be a story without tension and drama. I also didn’t love how the main character kept referring to her work by the general term “science,” rather than biology or cancer research or whatever. That felt weird to me. Other than that, I really enjoyed the reading experience. What won me over was the lovable characters, the focus on consent, and chapter 16. IFYKYK!

I've read 'love on the brain' and 'love, theoretically' first, so it was very interesting to see ali hazelwood's writing improvement backwards. Ngl, the whole "big, brooding, insanely smart and unapproachable guy and small, dainty, sunshiney, quirky, also insanely smart girl" trope is on another level in her work, but most of the time i quite enjoyed it (and just kind of read over those lines). i do find the MCs to be kind of over the top quirky sometimes, but i think the combination of women in STEM and romance is a refreshing read.
Personally, i had to put down the book a few times bc i cringed too much but u do u.
The thing i love (and sometimes roll my eyes over) most about Ali Hazelwoods novels is how head over heels the guys always are while the MC is completely clueless. This always makes me want to read it in one sitting and leaves me giggling and kicking my feet at some point.

All in all her books are just very enjoyable, especially for comfort reads without too much angst.

This is one of the best and smartest romance books I’ve read.

What I liked:
-the characters felt real
-there was one main sex scene in the book that just! kept! going! instead of lots of moments peppered throughout. I loved this scene- maybe my favourite sex scene ever.
-the main characters’ lives and histories and sexualities were complex and interesting. More specifically, the main character I think could be described as demisexual, though that wasn’t named/labeled, which I kinda liked too. I found her experience very interesting and relatable and not something I’ve seen described in fiction before
-they had lives outside of each other - mostly work/academia but also close friendships that mattered to them and that the book took the time to delve into which doesn’t happen that often in such depth in romance books
-some serious shit happens that is handled quite well

What I didn’t like:
-an abundance of body commentary - he is large, she is small, her “weighing nothing” is mentioned more than once, among many other comments that I just got tired of.
-there was a character who did a very bad thing and while I believed that could happen for sure, just how quickly he turned from likeable to complete dick for one earth-shaking scene felt a little unrealistic to me. I thought it would have been more believable if he was more subtle/better at his assholery.

I look forward to more by this author
