It is evident that this is ghostwritten because the style is quite abrupt, lacking warmth and cohesion even though the content is quite interesting. It is not a patch on Jennifer Worth.

A beautifully written memoir, we see Anderson's whole life, and how being a midwife is something she's always wanted to do. We see her grow from being a young adult doing nursing to her spending the rest of her life committed to being a midwife and an amazing one at that. This book, is a brilliant insight to some of the sights a midwife can encounter, so would 1000000% recommend to a prospective midwifery student, heart wrenching as well as educational you see a MASS amount of female empowerment and learn how strong women are and can be. Anderson perfectly portrays how the profession isn't all about beautiful babies being brought into the world, it's about leading women and empowering them throughout their pregnancy as well as sometimes the sad and dark times. My only critique are the last two chapters but that's just a personal thing, overall the whole book is very educational and shows the true role of a midwife. Would recommend

A really interesting and fun book to read! We read about Maria who wants to become a midwife after seeing her baby brother being born when she is 15. We see her go through nurse training and then go for midwifery. It was very interesting to read as next midwifery we also read about her personal life, her family and love. Of course, haha, I was mostly interested in the midwife parts. In the hospital and at homes. All sorts of births and people come by. From good dads to bad dads, to prison mothers, to people who don't speak a lot of English, to people with problems. There are sad moments and but also tons of humour. I loved how hard Maria was studying and how she kept getting better at the job, studying whenever she had time, making projects (like the breastfeeding one, and later for natural birth). I just flew through this book, never a dull moment. I am sad to read how things are now in hospitals for midwives and for pregnant mothers. I wonder how long it will take for things to go very bad, I do hope something happens before that.

Really good quirky anecdotes, but seemed lots of very short snippets rather than a book.
