This was an okay book for a debut. I was a little disappointed with it. I had most of the ghost mystery solved way before the characters did. And the ending felt very rushed compared to the rest of the book. I'll give Alender another chance in the future though.

Review for the Re-read I did in 2014:

I read this book almost 2 years ago, and thanks to a challenge in one of my groups I decided to read it again.

Sadly I still knew most of the things that happened in the book, so nothing was a big surprise to me. Though I can say I still loved to read the book.

Characters... Mm I must say I know again why I didn't always like it the last time. Kasey, and her annoying behaviour (not only when she was possessed, mind you). She acts for most of the time as if she is 6 instead of 13 (I believe she was that). She clings to everyone, needs help with everything and well she is a mess. And then she gets possessed and dear lord she becomes worse.

Luckily there is a whole cast of characters that power up the story and make it good again.

The story itself was fun. I really love reading about old houses with secrets and scary stuff. Though I absolutely hate dolls and this book made me shiver quite a few times.

Well, since I know book 2 wasn't to my liking I probably won't read that and will just leave it to this book.

All in all, I would recommend this book. :)

Classified under the "horror and suspense" genre, Bad Girls Don't Die is hardly as scary as the cover makes it seem. With a mom who is hardly home, a dad who wants to be her best friend but can't, and a little sister who is possessed, Alexis is left with no other option: she has to team up with the person she least expects. Finding out who now controls Kasey leads Alexis to find many truths about herself and the people around her, including the rather attractive and preppy "Young Republican" Carter Blume.

I thought this book was alright, although it could have had some improvement with the paranormal aspect. I have a feeling this book was aimed toward the younger young adults, so the horror may be more apparent there. I did enjoy the plot, it was interesting with some unexpected twists, but the characters are not as developed as they could be. I would like to have seen Kasey more before she becomes possessed so myself as a reader could compare the difference rather than have Alexis just tell me how "this was not like Kasey". Alexis with her pink hair seems really interesting, and there seems to be more to her than Katie Alender is telling us in this novel. I hope she reveals more of her character in the second book of this series.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good mystery, but is afraid of diving straight into the hard-core paranormal books. It's the perfect book to ease into this genre with because while it is not too scary, it still has aspects of the horror genre.
