I'm reading this as part of my Venom/Carnage/Toxin/symbiote readthrough of the Spider-Man universe.

This isn't a completely necessary volume if you're just reading it for Venom, there's one moment in the first issue that changes some of the rules for Mac/Venom but mostly this is just an average post-Secret Invasion/pre-Seige Marvel book. It's a clearly short term status quo being set up and dismantled, and the characters eah get a few moments to shine but it feels like filler. Granted, it's Bendis filler, so if you enjoy quippy dialogue and seemingly purposeful plotting, it's a fun read. But it's neither his best work nor the best work for keeping up with Venom.

I was prepared to hate this book because I hate Norman Osborn and don't care about his villain fake avengers, but it was actually a pretty good read and I want to read some more.

Plot: The storyline was okay. I didn't love that it kept jumping around in time. The jumps from Morgana's time to the present made sense, but some of the other jumps kept me from investing in the story. The ending was interesting though and definitely set things up for an interesting arc.
Characters: I didn't think any of the characters were particularly well developed, and I didn't really connect with any of them. The character I liked the most was Morgana, and she was the "bad guy". Granted, I'm not sure any of the characters were even supposed to be that likable, but I still would've liked to at least been able to connect with one or two.
Overall: I was a bit disappointed with this collection. It does seem like the next arc could be interesting, but the characters didn't interest me enough to pick up the next volume.

Dark Avengers, are here to save the world!

Amazing artwork, and an amazing plotline. Everything from issue 1 to 5 was great. My grip with issue #6 was the fact that we didn't get to see the full carnage that the Void brought on the Atlanteans.

Still, after reading Guymer's [b:Dark Avengers: The Patriot List: A Marvel: Untold Novel|56348188|Dark Avengers The Patriot List A Marvel Untold Novel|David Guymer|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1631736607l/56348188._SY75_.jpg|87796544], going back to Brian Michael Bendis's run was just fun.

I'm not a big Bendis fan and this book didn't change my mind - it's a really good concept but one that gets worn thin. Every issue feels repetitive because every issue seems to remind us that they're all villains and you can't trust Norman Osborn.
A good, quick read but a squandered opportunity.

Interesting take, great art, okay story. Artist made Norman Osborne look like Tommy Lee Jones.
Would have liked a bit more background on the Dark Avenger characters.

For the past 3 years I've been obsessively telling everyone who will even pretend to listen that mcu is gearing up for a dark avengers movie and now I'm throwing it out to goodreads as well. We have most of the characters already!

anyway about the Volume... it's pretty bad, quite dumb, annoying, and edgy at a time when edginess was already edging out. That being said I'm gay and loved it

This is the Dark Reign when Norman Osborn had the keys to the kingdom.

And this is a really well put together title. It shows the Dark Avengers first mission and the building of the team and it’s really good. The art and paneling are consistent and there is enough variety in panel layout from issue to issue.

It’s also really engaging to have an Avengers comic where they take no prisoners.

It’s an interesting foil to the New Avengers that also intersects with it at certain points.

Overall if you’re reading new Avengers pick this up to read with it, and if you’re familiar with the time Dark Reign took place in, namely after Civil War and Secret Invasion then this is doubley interesting.

4 stars.

I wanna say like a 3.5. It's not particularly great but I enjoy it more than average
