This book was an adventure that I love with my whole heart. At first Tella annoyed me, that’s true, but she’s just a a girl looking out for her sister. Scarlett is such a great sister too. LIKE I LOVE THEM BOTH WITH MY WHOLE HEART. Julian was always such a mean softie yk??? Also, Dante, let’s never forget Dante. Dante is the loml he is MINE. Every character in this book, no matter how small their part may be, was so likeable. LIKE THE WHOLE BOOK IS A MASTERPIECE. The magic, the scenery, the concept, I LOVE IT. Stephanie Garber never misses, thats true.

Stephanie Garber has a magical way of describing the details of her literary world. I adore that this story involves two sisters. My chief complaint is that I felt the romance was a little rushed and I had a difficult time buying the insta-love trope. Maybe we will get more in the second book? I was also hoping for more "ah-hah" moments with the clues that Scarlett was meant to find.

However, overall this was a solid start to the trilogy, I couldn't look away, and I'm excited to read the next book. And my gosh every time he called her "Crimson" I melted.

“Whatever you’ve heard about Caraval, it doesn’t compare to the reality. It’s more than just a game or a performance. It’s the closest you’ll ever find to magic in this world.” - Stephanie Garber, Caraval

This book definitely has flaws, but in general, it's enjoyable. Scarlett is a great character, and the world-building was good. I however wasn't a fan of her sister, Donatella. She seems to care very little about Scarlett, whilst Scarlett is risking her life for her.
