I seriously need to make a map or guide with all the books related to the Constantine/Morelli feud lol. Roman was a character I wanted to read about and I was glad I did

Start with this book...

I read this after reading the second book. And it did answer some questions for me. But now I've got to wait for the three book. Definitely read these in order.

I almost and I mean almost didn’t want to read this one as I wasn’t too interested in reading about Ronan, but I am so glad I gave this book a shot.

I really really liked their chemistry and how they are both depicted as outsiders in this Morelli/Constantine feud. She is the daughter of Caroline’s best friend and yes we see A LOT of Caroline here. No changes to her manipulative ways though but Poppy is clueless and sees her as someone to care about and who cares about her but slowly she gets a good idea of WHO Caroline could be and a better understanding of her games.

Ronan is Caroline’s henchman/right hand man who basically does all the dirty work for her. We met him briefly in previous Midnight Dynasty books, but he didn’t leave an impression until this book.
He really is a conflicted character, he seems loyal to Caroline, but meeting Poppy has made his allegiance possibly waver.

Poppy’s sister Zilla is mentally struggling and needed to have her committed to get better care and with no parents or money she was manipulated by Caroline into marrying a man that was 28 years older than her, who ended up physically abusing her and also manipulating her. They were married for 2 years before he ‘’killed’’ himself. Now the twist about his death was not shocking to me as I had a feeling that Ronan was the one behind it but I would of thought he could have been given the push by Caroline but now I am thinking he did it to save Poppy and protect her once he found out how abusive he was towards her. We also get told quickly that Poppy’s mom would sleep with guys during her married and she mentioned the 19-year-old pool boy – this makes me think Caroline and her had depraving tastes.

Their brief meeting during her engagement announcement party solidified their connection and of course he won’t admit to it and left her alone while she was married but I kind of wanted him to be more dominating and take control of his feelings.

The spice was there – they didn’t actually have sex as he always denied her which made me sad, but I know it’s coming in book 2 so I will wait patiently.

We also find out about his childhood and what led to him being who he is now. He was physically abused by his father and later on the priests he lived with in Northern Ireland (yes he is Irish with a thick accent). He also hinted he was possibly molested by the priests.

Overall, I am already enjoying this book more than Leo and Lucian’s stories. I really like Ronan and Poppy as individuals, and I especially like them together and I cannot wait to see what is in store. As there are so many questions that need to be answered:

1. Who set her house on fire?
2. Why was Theo (her driver and only staff member to stay after the Senators death) connected to the Morelli’s?
3. Why do the Morelli’s want her?
4. What is Caroline up to?
5. Why did Ronan kill the senator? On behalf of Caroline or his own doing?
6. Is Zilla behind some of the things going on in Poppy’s life?
7. What is in the box that the lawyer gave to Poppy after her husband died?

I'm so confused with what's happening but I'm guessing thats the point so I'll be diving straight into the second one hoping for answers.

I wish we'd got Ronans POV because right now I've no clue what he's really thinking or feeling.

3/5 stars
