I didn't really enjoy reading this book. I found it long and unnecessarily convoluted... Or maybe I only found it convoluted because I had a hard time focusing while reading it.

As with the first book, I was not at all disappointed. Loved it.

This book started off really well. It was fast-paced and interesting, but as the story went on, I found myself a little lost and fed-up.

It was too predictable. A lot of the time, I was annoyed at the characters, especially Nikki Heat, for not figuring things out fast enough. The most frustrating part was when the murdered gossip columnist, Cassidy Towne, was found with 'dirt in the creases of her palms' and 'a crescent moon of dirt under the nail.' Straight after that, Rook mentions that Cassidy Towne likes gardening. So straight away, I think that she has hidden something in the plants at her apartment, but it takes the majority of the book for Rook to figure that out.

Another thing that I struggled with was the characters. There were so many people that I lost track of who was who. Things would happen to a character and it wouldn't have any impact because I was trying to remember who they were.

Despite the problems I had with this book, one thing that I loved was how it was written. When it came to the big reveal, as soon as it got to the peak of the tension, it cut away, like a film, and went to another character's equally dramatic situation. It made the ending quite fast-paced and exciting...even though I knew what was going to happen.

I'm a big Castle fan. This book is so much better than the first one. And it was entertaining. I can't say I prefer Nikki Heat to Beckett but Jameson Rook? Love him! I'll look for the next book to read about him some more. Ome reviewer said that the book was sexist. I don't know, I didn't get that vibe. But I'm more of a romance thriller/contemporary romance kinda gal, maybe I shouldn't have an opinion about that. All in all, I don't regret waking up early in the morning to finish the last 4 chapters.

I liked the first one, but this one is too similar. Almost the same ending indeed...
Still one of the "author" that makes me read faster than ever, so I'll give it another chance with the third book.

Love the tv show and I find the books an extension of that. Fast fun read!
