Not quite 4 stars, but I’d give this 3.75! I really enjoy this series. There have only been two, and this one introduced a new collection of characters. Will be interesting to see how the third shakes out, and I look forward to it! Favorite part of this one was the characters, I just fell in love with Benny and Edwin, and I hope they make it into future installments. This one gets docked foe the ending, it felt too rushed and too tidy all at the same time, but still a fantastic book!

This was so fun! If you liked the Thursday Murder Club this should be next on your list, it's very much in the same vein. Characters were so fun to spend time with and it was well plotted.

I am a sucker for a book that references other books. The first in this series did the same- this followed along with crime novels. Swoon.
Peggy enjoys noting the comings and goings on her street- number of dog walkers, cyclists.
That's where her carer, Natalka, finds her.
The son, Nigel, and his wife swoop diwn to clean out her flat. Natalka helps. Only to find many of the crime novels dedicated or acknowledging Peggy. She even has a businesses card - murder consultant.
Harbinder is made aware of the possibility of Peggy's death actually being a homicide. She remains unconvinced until Natalka and Benedict, a former monk turned coffee shack owner, are held at gunpoint.
Humor. Lovely people. Characters. Very enjoyable read.

#StoryGraph: fiction crime mystery thriller

DESCRIPTION

Murder leaps off the page when crime novelists begin to turn up dead in this intricate new novel by internationally best-selling author Elly Griffiths, a literary mystery perfect for fans of Anthony Horowitz and Agatha Christie.

The death of a ninety-year-old woman with a heart condition should not be suspicious. Detective Sergeant Harbinder Kaur certainly sees nothing out of the ordinary when Peggy’s caretaker, Natalka, begins to recount Peggy Smith’s passing.

But Natalka had a reason to be at the police station: while clearing out Peggy’s flat, she noticed an unusual number of crime novels, all dedicated to Peggy. And each psychological thriller included a mysterious postscript: PS: for PS. When a gunman breaks into the flat to steal a book and its author is found dead shortly thereafter—Detective Kaur begins to think that perhaps there is no such thing as an unsuspicious death after all.

And then things escalate: from an Aberdeen literary festival to the streets of Edinburgh, writers are being targeted. DS Kaur embarks on a road trip across Europe and reckons with how exactly authors can think up such realistic crimes . . .

I loved this! I really enjoyed The Stranger Diaries so I was thrilled to realize it would be a series. I liked all the new characters though, and while I’d love to see them in another novel, I’d be just as happy with new ones since I seem to love them all.

This was a cleverly done mystery as well; it had a lot of great literary nods and harkened back to “the golden age” of crime fiction. There was so much to appreciate, but of course the murder takes center stage, and it was twisty and fun.

I really hope we get a new book soon, but if not I guess I’ll start working on the backlist!

Something about the way these books are ended irritates me each time. Truly enjoy her writing style/story telling up to that point, but in both Stranger Diaries & this, the ending is horridly rushed/bounces everywhere.

Thanks to Quercus Books & NetGalley for the DRC in exchange for an honest review.

I thought this was a well written story, if a little dull at times. I liked the characters, and it was interesting having it all tie into the world of publishing. It did get a bit farfetched at times, which made me lose interest.
