Das alles ist eingebettet in das Portrait der Lebensumstände von Elizabeth Zott, einer hochintelligenten, eigensinnigen und unabhängigen Frau, die doch eigentlich nur Chemikerin sein will. Aber das Leben hält viele Rückschläge und Verluste für sie bereit und gerade eine nie eingeplante Mutterschaft bringt weitere Schwierigkeiten für die nüchterne Wissenschaftlerin mit sich.
Der treue hündische Begleiter "Halb Sieben" wird als äußerst intelligentes Tier dargestellt. Geschrieben ist er dabei wie ein Mensch denkend und fühlend, was ich anfangs in dem Kontext dieser Geschichte etwas befremdlich fand. Trotzdem mochte ich seinen Anteil an der Geschichte und die Stütze, die er für Elisabeth darstellt.
