"...What is a mother wailing? We do not recognize music until we can sell it. We sell what cannot be bought. We buy silence. Let us help you. How much does it cost to hold your breath underwater? Wait. Wait. What are we? What? What on Earth are we? What?"

While it's a thin collection, you'll have to read through it three times to grapple with the full weight. Brown writes about living in states of terror, privilege, violence, and longing for some sort of rest and peace. It's beautiful and haunting and I cannot recommend it enough.

Great poetry, very original use of language, however I only understood like 40 -60% of what the poems were actually about (probably because I’m not a native speaker)

A powerful collection. I especially liked the form of the duplex, which makes every other line a volta until the poem becomes an ambivalent feedback loop that grows in intensity upon each re-reading.
