My big takeaway from this travel memoir is the value of a hot water bottle. I also leaned a few things about tigers as the author smartly intersperses tiger facts, tiger tales, and tiger-related works of art among her personal stories.

Writing skilled and clear, but nothing really grabbed me. I didn't believe it was a quest for a wounded woman to regain something by seeing a tiger. It didn't spark for me. Life is too short to read books that don't hold you.

My ego is the only reason I finished this book.

An enjoyable travelogue of Indian tiger safaris and a mediation on growing older. As both an adult figure skater and someone who's been on some frustrating tiger safaris in India, i related to Mary's experience and found her thoughts on growing older and symbolism of tigers to be very interesting to read. It's a short book - it didn't take me very long to finish - but the prose is poetic and transporting.
