More like 2.5 but yeah it wasn’t great. Not horrible but just not interesting or entertaining. Lots of unnecessary sweating. Not much character depth. Very convenient timing with things, etc.

I loved this book. I’m starting to obsess over Colleen Hoovers books. I just ordered 2 more of hers. This one was more similar to Verity even though Verity is really nothing like her other books. This one is up there in my favorites of hers.

A friend told me this story was originally released one chapter at a time via wattpad. I think I would have liked it better if I read it that way. Reading it all at once was just too much. I kept finding myself thinking “is it over yet”. It’s hard to keep reading about horrible things happening to the same person over and over. It was also very frustrating that the characters always just believed what Asa told them. I know Sloan was only 18 when she met him but why the hell did she not contact the social worker after the first letter she received saying her brother’s benefits had been revoked? Colleen is a great writer and I know I will read many more of her books, but this one was not for me.

Definitely not Colleen's typical type of story. As she's said, this is something she wrote to combat writers block, but the people were interested so here it is..

Definitely check the trigger warnings before picking up this story. Mentions of heavy and dark topics, such as drugs, domestic abuse, and sexual assault.

But if you're comfortable reading about those topics, it was a dark, twisted, scary ride. I read this very quickly, because it did have me on the edge of my seat. Colleen definitely isn't afraid to write about flawed characters and heavy topics. She definitely did on this one.
