this picks up right where the first left off,, grim and viv are tasked to find traitors?? planners of a conspiracy???
i like that they kinda went back to square one w her being against him bc of her being sired

the back and forth was so cunt and i LOVED the dual povvvvvvv like it's so necessary
he was falling for her like no one's literal business and i'm in love
the intimacy and trust they formed over the span of thi book was so heartwarming and beautiful actually!

they are simply so perfectly matched i have no notes!
our queen single-handedly solved the big problem in the book and made anubis fall in love w her??? like GIRL! how does it feel to live MY DREAM??
they finally fucked and yes! i would say 🌶️🌶️/5
three things of note, if someone constantly referee to me and my energy as the sun and their new center of being i'm ded
if someone ever offered to kill someone who hurt me
and if i loved someone enough to take their place in hell? i'm DONE FOR

This series is getting good! Grim and Vivien have crazy chemistry
that they finally act on thank god
that fuels both of their decisions into reckless and chaotic plot points. Discovering more about Viviens past and Grims intentions just douse the fire in fuel. I was roped in from the first chapter.

Spice: 🌶

Whilst this isn't the best book I've ever read, I do really enjoy the storyline. It is a very easy read.

Pros:
  • I enjoyed learning more about vivs past. TW, it does include talking about sexual assault she went through as a minor
  • I liked how viv didn't give into grim straight away (even if she wanted too)
  • The characters in the book are written fairly well, especially with the gods back-stories. They aren't overexplained
  • Another mystery to follow through this book
  • We had a bit more romance between the two main characters

Cons
  • A lot of the jokes were repeated from the first book
  • For me, some of the modern references were far to cringey.
  • Even though I loved the main characters, during scenes that were emotional for them, I didn't quite feel that emotion
  • The 'oh no shit is going down let me save the day with a kiss' was annoying personally

This book was darker than the first,
especially given the implied S.A in Vivien's past by her uncle.

However, Vivien's unique and hilarious descriptions (e.g. her blue faux fur coat that she named Cookie Monster) added levity and kept things entertaining.

Additionally, Jenkins and the tiny guys running her brain were a highlight for me yet again:

"Jenkins, did you hear that? She’s got a target on her back.
Sir, I heard. We are royally screwed. What are we going to do about it?
Hit the lever to switch her focus. Get it onto anything else. If she thinks about it too long, her head will pop, and we’ll be out of a job."
