Current events....a book about the Murdaugh murders and the boating accident (cause by Paul Murdaugh). I had heard a podcast or three...and seen a couple docs, just thought I'd grab the book for a quick read during my travels.
Pretty straight forward reporting with details of what happened.

Read if you enjoy true crime.

Slightly above average, with a somewhat lacklustre exploration of the range of evidence implicating Alex Murdaugh in the murders of Paul and Maggie Murdaugh. The link between Buster Murdaugh and Stephen Smith was also barely explored.

It doesn’t feel fair for me to rate this, since I only read it out of obligation to one of my book clubs. This was well-written, but I have absolutely no interest in this family or this case, lol. So no rating; this is just a book that I’ve read!

A long journey back through the Murdaugh family history, ending in the murders of Maggie & Paul. Interesting to hear the power they exerted in their community. A very narcissistic family, particularly the men, they just did as they pleased, regardless of the law, acted as if they were above it. So it looks like Alec got a nasty shock as it all came crashing down when he was arrested.

A lot of these types of books can get caught in the weeds and be tedious. Especially dealing with financial crimes.
This book managed to explain, in detail, how all the crimes/happenings/events/people/ect are related and fit in the timeline. I even found it’s explanation of the financial crimes to be easier to understand and held my interest more so than other books.
Very well put together.

I didn't know much about these case(s) going into this, so I definitely learned a lot. The things that this family got away with for so long are truly horrible. I will have to watch the Netflix doc. to see how it compares.
I did find the beginning section pretty dry with all of the history of the Murdaugh lineage. I probably could have done without some of it. Once the first *alleged* murder story began, it picked up.
Overall I found this to be a well-researched, informative book (especially if you don't know much about the cases).
