An excellent contemporary read! This book spans the first few decades of the main character's life (while also exploring the past of her family members to explain why she is being raised the way she is) so it can feel a bit disconcerting if you don't know this.

There are three almost separate seeming 'chapters' of Alice's life explored so it helps to know that going in- otherwise, the break between her early disjointed childhood understanding into the people caring for her in the second part can through you.

The third part, told more from her adult perspective was fairly easy to read (though the topics she works through can be triggering to some- brutal!)  Another author might have simply told the story only from that third part- throwing in bits and pieces in flashbacks to help you understand.  As it stands, we are led through Alice's life from beginning to her final growth into an adult on her way to a well-rounded life and we get a much more complete picture because of Ringland's choice of structure.

I found this choice of structure particularly intriguing given Alice's constant struggle to get the caregivers in her life to simply be straight with her and explain her family's history to her once and for all already!
Those who do not understand their history and, by extension, their family's history, are doomed to repeat the same bad patterns over and over.
Hiding the past almost never ends well and can actually be quite destructive.

I wanted to love this book. I really loved the start and really loved the end. The middle was too drawn out and honestly boring. Some of the writing was so breathtakingly beautiful. I just wanted to love it more than I did.

I never cried after finishing a book solely because I was heartbroken that it ended. But after reading this book I did cried, I’m still crying. I can’t believe that this magical and powerful story just came to an end. From the beginning to the very end it enchanted me, I couldn’t stop reading it. I want to start it all over again right now and then again and again. This book has been published in 30 countries and I want to collect every possible edition I can get, it may seem like an overstatement but this book means everything to me. Even though I have literally just finished it but I truly haven’t felt this way about any book before. I want to learn everything about flowers and about Alice. She is such a wonderful character, I feel like I knew her my whole life.

First I started watching the tv series without knowing it’s based on a book, after watching the first episode I realized that it’s an adaptation and since I already felt so deeply about the story I started listening to the audiobook the very next day. Actually it only took me a day to listen to the whole book. I couldn’t stop listening to it! I cannot even express how much I loved it! Also the tv adaptation is amazing very similar to the book which is the best thing ever! Only watched 3 episodes so far but incredibly excited to watch more of it!

I can’t believe that this was the author’s debut novel. I’m so grateful that she shared this incredible story to the world! Holly Ringland is an outstanding writer who deserves everything and I can’t wait to read more from her.

This book is a must read, please read it! It is a very important and beautiful story!

This book changed my life and I’m sure it can change many more. The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart is a true masterpiece.
Unique, charming and inspiring.

I love rereading favorite books of mine but this year surprisingly this was my first reread. I think I knew deep down that I will find a book that becomes part of me, the book I want to relive over and over again the first time. My reread was truly wonderful, the most magical thing happened.
I felt like I’m reading this book for the first time again, even though I knew everything that happened I still had that magical feeling. The feeling that this book became my home.

I honestly couldn’t recommend this book enough!
