This book managed to somehow feel both incredibly drawn out and rather rushed at the same time.
It did not feel as thought through as her other books, and I was honestly really disappointed. The characters felt somewhat flat and their personalities seemed to differ from the other books.
The plot in this book was weird at best and nonexistent at worst, it felt like 400 pages of miscommunication and 300 pages of exaggerated fight scenes that seemed bland or boring.
I realize this all sounds incredibly negative, and of course there are good aspects and I definitely think it’s worth a read (if you set your expectations right beforehand).

So yes, I'm biased 'cause this series has been with me for 10 years so I will probably give a great rating to all its books, however this one deserves it. I think Clare is better at writing period pieces more than contemporary (or maybe I love period fantasy more than urban). The final installement of The Last Hours is action packed, romance packed and drama packed and not lacking in any department. And although I can't in good faith be aligned with certain character deaths (I'm not forgiving you Cassie Clare, it's the third time you break me this way) I have to admit she knows how to write a great book. So, 5/5 especially for the epilogue, I love (mostly) happy endings.

The first two hundred pages were so hard to get through, super boring. Then the plot picked up but the overall ending was just meh. I absolutely hated the death, that was my favourite character. Overall, just super disappointed in this series, I had such high hopes too.

usually i love the shadowhunter chronicles, just couldn't get behind this one for some reason. the last fifth of the book was just kind of a let down. everything seemed... too easy? it felt in many ways that the book was almost solely to connect it to The Dark Artifices and not enough to it's own trilogy. but maybe im just growing out of YA

I loved this book so much. No matter how long it's been since I last read a Cassandra Clare book, she always manages to describe the world and characters so vividly that I feel I slot right back in. Although I found COT to be slower paced than some of the previous two in the last hours trilogy, I actually enjoyed how she slowed the pace for its conclusion- it gave me more time with a cast of characters who I love so much and I honestly wish I had more.

If the miscommunication trope hadn’t been milked for half the book it would’ve been a knock out. But once that was sorted out things were epic! I’m sad to see the series go and enjoyed it immensely.
