I guess I was expecting so much more and as you can see it took me almost two month to read this one and I usually read tsc books so fucking fast, three stars bc of herondaisy (my beloveds) and all the other characters who I truly love (specially my baby kit)

I'm not a big fan of communication issues, but I did appreciate how well things were handled with James, and even the fact that there was an aftermath to what happened with Grace (too many novels, movies, TV shows would simply gloss over it).

I love the whole shadowhunter universe and these characters but I don't know.
First up, I didn't like the love triangle and the unnecessary drama it caused, I couldn't help but think that
I also noticed that there wasn't really much of a storyline because there were so many scenes with all the couples or friendgroups/ friendships which I didn't necessarily hate BUT it really took away from the plot tbh.
Considering that there were so many scenes where people just talked, I was a little disappointed that we didn't get a Tessa×Will or Jem×Will (!!!) scene (I know that it's a trilogy about their kids but still..) especially because this was the last book in which Will is alive (😭).
To be fair, there were a lot of times when Will and Tessa were mentioned or Will said something funny.
I would've loved Tessa as a single character to be more present as well but we can't all get what we want😔🤩 and I was thinking that maybe she's gonna be more present in the wicked powers (🤞🏻🤞🏻).
I was disappointed in the ending as well. Even though the atmosphere Cassie created was positively creepy (and I loved that), the conflict was too easily resolved in the end and everything just worked out???
Another major aspect is that we didn't get to see the family of a certain someone who died (😤) grieving at all and the merry thieves' reaction was a wee bit weird/ downplayed imo but okay.
Now the things I loved. This book was FUNNY. I laughed out loud a lot. As mentioned before, there was lots of development for the couples which, as a long time fan of this universe, was exciting.
Christopher was my favorite character this book and his storyline with Grace plus the Thomas×Alastair one was the best one by far!!
Alastair had amazing character development throughout the whole series and to see the "result" in this book was amazing!!!
I LOVE Grace, she's such a complex character and I was glad to see her incorporated into the story and into the friend group as well.
I'm also a big fan of Eugenia, I was so happy every time she tagged along on a mission<3
Overall, I'm very happy with the character and relationship aspect of this final book but feel that the plot had much more potential.

i found Chain of Thorns to be a bit slow and dragging, the plot was confusing and i know that’s because the characters don’t really know what’s going on but it just left me not knowing what was happening, so i was only invested in the romances, not the actual fantasy plotline with Belial and everything.
half the characters were very frustrating and half were wonderful.
so it was a mixed experience.
like i said above, i should’ve reread the first two books (and potentially the infernal devices as well) however i simply could not be bothered and i also was very excited to read this. there were just too many things i didn’t remember and while i could infer well enough it still would’ve been nice to understand more and also be more invested in the story and characters. i also read it in random chunks across about a week and i think that negatively impacted my reading experience too.

Also, there's a lot of hiding things and miscommunication in this book, adding to a love triangle and in my opinion, creating unnecssary drama. Some of the characters also made some strange decisions in this, not really matching with the first two books in the series. For me, James was the most frustrating, since he didn't want to be straight forward with Cordelia. You're married! You both love each other! Just tell her what had been going on!
Anyway, if you're a fan of the Shadowhunter books, you'll probably enjoy this one. It just wasn't my favorite of the Shadowhunter books.
