I knew that when I reread this book I was going to be once again blown away at how a simple story can have such an impact on the reader. I remember reading this in middle school and being so invested in the world of greasers and socses and that happened to be the case again. Show casing that just because you come from the wrong side of the tracks in no way means that you are a bad person. I will forever love this book and hope it continues to be read in schools.

One of only two assigned reading books that I could not get enough of in school. I read through the entire story long before it was due. Stay golden <3

This book was even better than I remembered it being when I was younger. The narration was so character-driven and so deep inside Ponyboy's own head that you really got a sense of the world and people in this story. Heartbreaking and beautiful. A great kid's book that doesn't shy away from the complexities children face and know about. It tackles those issues head on and never does anything but assume the reader is as smart, if not smarter, than Ponyboy himself. Stay gold :')

This was a classic I missed growing up, but being a big musical fan, I wanted to read the orginal before exploring the new Outsiders musical. The story follows Ponyboy as he and his brothers and friends, who are all "Greasers" struggle to get by while being harassed and attacked by the wealthier "Socs." After meeting a soc girl names Cherry, and realizing she has a lot in common with him, Ponyboy and his friend Johnny are attacked by Cherry's boyfriend Bob and his friends. After Johnny stabs and kills Bob in self defense, the greasers find themselves involved in gang warefare, while Johnny and Ponyboy have to figure out their next moves. It's not an easy read, but I can see why it's a classic. Ponyboy is a bit angsty for my adult brain, but I could see teenage me sympathizing deeply with him and his gang.
