1-2-3 Peas by Keith Baker

Following LMNO Peas, Baker brings us another creative look at peas. The peas are counting from 1-20, then counting by tens to 100. Each number showcases peas working on an activity. This story can easily be a read aloud or an action read aloud with the listeners.

Reviewed from a library copy.

Just as cute as his alphabet book, Baker's counting book is great for a classroom read-aloud. Use it for counting (although 11-19 are skipped, peas count 1-10, then by 10s up to 100), focus on the rhyme, or use it for an "-ing" lesson since each page has the peas doing something ending with "ing". Fingertips pressed on green inkpads would make sweet "pea pictures" for students to count and to decorate.

A sequel to LMNO Peas, 1-2-3 Peas allows a child to count to 100 with peas. Engaging writing and bright, beautiful illustrations.

This just may be the cutest counting book ever! I like how the numbers 1 through 10 are each given an individual spotlight with different actions for the peas to engage in. It's a little odd how Baker chooses to lump 11 through 19 together and transitioning to counting by tens is not particularly smooth, but I appreciate how the numbers and counting go all the way up to 100. The illustrations are fun and contain all sorts of neat hidden details; I especially got a kick out of The Peatles giving a concert on the 70 page.

My kids adored "LMNO peas" so we had to get this one. I thought it was not quite as clever, but still cute. My kids 2, 4, and 6 year olds all enjoyed it.
