I enjoyed this continuation. Jacky spends the book hosting a get-together for werecats in her region to allow them to meet her and voice their opinions. Someone of course comes in to ruin her plans and cause mayhem, or else it wouldn't be a Jacky Leon book. The big bad of this book is nothing too exciting. Not very big, even if bad. The conflict does connect to the larger conflicts within the series, but it won't be the most memorable conflict when the series is over. The book as a whole is more a focus on Jacky and her many relationships: with the werewolves, with Zuri, with the rest of her family, with the werecats, and with the BSA. For once her familial relationships are lower on the totem pole for this book, which was kind of a nice break.

The author put in the notes a sort of apology for having less action in this book, mentioning that ever series needs a down-beat. I would agree, but I also felt that was slightly unfair. One of my favorite things about this author is her crafting of relationships and the dynamics between characters (it's part of why I'm struggling with the Everly Abbott spin off). I suppose the author may have gotten remarks in the past about the action content, so she may be hyper-aware of that interest from her readers. However, I quite enjoyed this book because we weren't beating down the same door as the previous 7 books that rifle through every small intricacy of the werecat ruling family. This book was able to display more dynamics within Heath's rogue werewolf pack, as well as introducing new werecats and creating new dynamics and new dimensions within this world.

I look forward to what comes next.

Jacky

Jacky is one of my favorite characters. She smart, compassionate and Kicks A$$ when needed. She will go to the wall for family and friends. I love the characters and how well they are developed. They are not perfect people and they make mistakes and hard choices. Love it!!

There was a decent amount of progress about werecat and werewolf politics, and we learned more about individual werecats, but there was no change yet on Hasan's relationship with Jacky by the end of the story which was a little heartbreaking. I loved Subira showing up to say her piece about the family drama and her opinion of Jacky as well as the subtle references to the novellas about Zuri and Jabari's romances and children. I adore the world building in this series and can't wait for more books.

From witches to werecats now, second time werecats were the villain. I won’t say more coz no spoilers intended here.
I love the family Jacky and Heath are creating. I’ve also noticed Ms. Banet makes us like characters that we initially hated in the beginning.
I like Jacky’s new “coined name”, it really fits!
I had forgotten how much I liked Heath.
I feel like the next book will be the last, after we catch that pesky villain that has dodged us in several books.
Thank you Ms Banet.

This was a hard one for me to get into but I really enjoyed them first third and last third. It was the middle that just DRAGGED for me.

Always love when Zuri comes for a visit ❤️
