In Southern Louisiana, things aren't always what they seem. When Angel meets Lucas, a man who has misguided fears about his appearance, she sets out to prove that she can pull this hot mess of a man back from the edge of isolation. While Lucas wants to prove that the only thing stronger than his fear, is his love for Angel.

I met Amanda Allen in a book group we both belong to on Facebook. We got to talking, I stalked her (looked her up) on Amazon. I surprisingly found she wrote a book based in South Louisiana.
Whoa!
Seriously?!
That's where I live!

As a avid reader, I love to find books based in Louisiana. I love seeing how authors see our area, how they depict our people. Some authors get it right, some not so much. Amanda definitely got it right! We get a taste of the southern folk with their sweet dispositions and hospitality. We get a look into some old folklores like the Loup Garou and a touch of some voodoo gris gris plus some witch crafts spells and a coven. It was perfect in my opinion of what someone might think of South Louisiana.

What I think most readers are missing from this particular story is the way it's written. It's not written like most books are. And for the life of me cannot remember what the style of writing is called. (Bad Blogger! I know! I'm sorry, y'all!) But it's written to where not every single detail is pointed out. You have to think and assume what has happened. I don't think it took away from the story at all. I personally loved it! It's a nice change up. I've only read one other book written this way and I had to go ahead and explain that book to people about the type of writing. To me, it worked out perfectly with the story.

This book is a quick read and has some voodoo, witch craft, folklore, steamy hot sex scenes, you've got a broken hero, and tough as nails heroine. If you're from Louisiana, you will not be disappointed!

Angel Helms lives in Thibodaux, Louisiana where everyone goes in at night due to the threats of werewolves. People leave gifts for them on their doorsteps, but not Angel. But one night her good luck wears off and she is saved by Lucas Alexander.

Lucas has had a difficult few years since his girlfriend died in a fire and he was injured trying to save her. He never goes out in public and has no desire to move onto anyone else.

As Angel and Lucas begin to get closer there are events that can bring them closer or drive them apart. Both have their walls up and it won't be easy to bring them back down, especially when they discover what may have brought them together in the first place.

I really enjoyed this book. There are supernatural events that happen but still so much about just facing your own personal ghosts in order to move on with your life the way you want to. It's a lot about trust and the idea that you deserve to be happy!
