Holy moly, this is my third book from Alice Feeny, and while I’m definitely noticing a theme, I am never prepared for the twists and turns she crafts. I feel  like most of her books have serious trigger warnings, so tread carefully. Despite the often heinous nature of the books, her writing is quite excellent. Her imagery is amazing and I feel like I’m in the scenes. The particular twist at the end really through me for a loop and literally disgusted me so I feel compelled to deduct a star for that, but overall excellent thriller as usual

This is my fourth Alice Feeny book and although I haven't read all of her books I have noticed that Alice really loves using past and present perspectives to relay her thriller. Nothing wrong with that, it's just something I picked up while reading.

I don't know why, but for some reason, I was really feeling her writing in this book. There are some relatable quotes in there. While the pacing was slow, for some reason that didn't bother me like it would in other thriller books. The twist was shocking (I only guessed a part of it a chapter before) and very repugnant as well. After I finished the book I was rendered speechless.

What a...strange book lol. Was it good? Sort of? Did it keep me reading and wanting to know where the hell this was going? Yes, it sure did. Very strange twists and things happening in the very last 2 chapters felt way more done for the pure shock of the twist than something that actually makes sense. But! It was still an entertaining read and kept me hooked, so it was good for that!

I have to say, when I started this book, I wasn’t really feeling it. I was half expecting to DNF it before the halfway point because lots of stuff what happening but I couldn’t see how it was all linked up.

However, as I approached the halfway point I raced through the rest of it. I had so many questions that needed answering that it made me want to finish it.

It took me up to about 3/4 of the way through the book to figure out what was going on. I had that sudden moment of realisation where all the little things that had been mentioned now made sense. I clearly didn’t know exactly what was going on as that last reveal really spun the whole plot around to something I was not expecting at all. Literally, my notes said “Oh no, that didn’t go where I expected it to. That’s so twisted.”

I found it to be really weird and creepy, especially the last couple of chapters. However, with the unexpected grossness to the plot, I’m not sure how much I actually enjoyed it.

Out of all of Feeney’s books that I’ve read so far, this is definitely not a favourite.
