Gene wolf is sooo good at these super weird and evocative little episodes, which the 2nd and third ones had in spades, but sadly the conclusion here was a little anticlimactic and rote. I liked the beginning where they were having a story telling contest waaaay more than the "grand" conclusion.
Still over all loved the series. one of the more unique things I've ever read. It has sorta the background of a traditional fantasy series, a journey, an evil empire, monsters, the guys gonna be come king at the end etc, but it followed a way different path, mostly picaresque little adventures, that were thought provoking and creative and strange! The mysterious melancholy dying earth setting maybe my favorite I've ever encountered!
