This book was a bit slower than the rest of the series. The writing is still exquisite. I can't wait for the book 4.

I didn't realise that I should have re-read The Angel's Game before reading this book until it was too late - but it didn't really matter, because any excuse to be thrown back into this beautiful universe is good enough for me. Although it was mostly backstory, I still thought this was really interesting and it was lovely to finally understand Fermin's past.

The Shadow of the Wind, the first edition of this absolutely show-stopping series of novels, had been sitting, collecting dust on my bookshelf for about six months before I got around to reading it.

Upon doing so, I picked it up and quite literally could not — and did not want to — put it back down. The only word I can think to use to describe the writing of Carlos Ruiz Zafón is “riveting.” The Shadow of the Wind was, and still is, one of my favorite books of all time, and I think it’ll stay that way forever!

I bought The Prisoner of Heaven about a year ago, and like before, left it on one of my shelves to collect dust because I just didn’t have the time nor the patience to sit down and read (can you believe it?). My first read post-reading slump was this novel and just…woah, what a phenomenal way to be welcomed back into the realm of fiction. I have always loved Daniel and Fermín Romero de Torres and all of their outlandish adventures, but I feel this book brought me impossibly closer to their characters and the crux of this entire universe. Fermín’s story, his pain, his humor, his happiness — it captured me!

Oh, how I love this story and those that preceded it. Please give it a moment of your time, I promise you won’t regret it!
