This book was exactly what I needed, exactly when I needed it! The author's comical and realistic approach to realigning our cravings was a perfect fit for me and just the push I needed to get the point across. The realizations that are addressed are very easily applied to all areas of life, not just food. I would recommend this as a read for anyone of any faith that is struggling with anything. You will laugh, cry, curl up and rock in the corner of the couch, and shout for joy. This is very easily one of the most empowering books I have ever read.

Good, but do not follow her philosophy of depriving yourself of certain foods. For me, it leads to a binge!

Chapter 16 talks about diets. She says one thing and is doing another. Diets are deprivation that cannot be sustained indefinitely and end in weight gain when ended. Taking a whole food group out of her diet isn't healthy or sustainable. She uses this as a "white elephant" but never addresses her own failing.

I totally agree that Jesus can do anything but what she is doing is not healthy.

I had one major problem with this book: it didn't really speak to me. I couldn't really wrap my head around the whole "God cares about what you eat" concept. I know it was more about obedience to God than eating 4 peanuts or 54. I tried to read this as one chapter a week with some co-workers but it became apparent that this timeline was way too slow and ineffectual. So we disbanded the group and agreed to finish in our timeline and answer the questions. So I did that.
Even then, I just didn't feel like most of this book spoke to me. One co-worker suggested that perhaps I wasn't supposed to "get" the whole book but that I was supposed to only glean a few nuggets from it. And I did; mostly that God is my daily portion and equips me every day for my unique struggles. But that didn't make me put down OR run to the Ben & Jerry's.
I kind of felt like Terkeurst was mashing her food struggle with Scripture and, if that works for you, awesome!! It just didn't for me.
And she should never be allowed to make pop culture references. Saying "You know that song 'I like big butts and I cannot lie' from Shark Tale?" WHAT??? She lost quite a bit of credibility with me at that moment. #sirmixalot4ever

DNF'd this at 30%

Lysa Terkeurst is always a hit or mis for me. Either It's a five star read or I don't like it.
Definitely a book for a person who has been a believer for awhile and mature in Christ. I like the concept of the book. I know that this was suppose to be more about obedience to God in order to avoid your cravings for food but I think it was poorly written and executed. Somethings made me cringe and were overly dramatic. It just wasn't for me. Hopefully her other book on food & Jesus is better. Had to DNF this one.

Lysa Terkeurst is another Christian author who's heart for God's word has impacted countless women and marriages for God. You just can't go wrong with her studies. They're thoughtful, insightful, steeped in Biblical truths, and relatable. I loved that this book looked at the issue of weight loss from the perspective of Biblical obedience - ensuring that we are not allowing anything other than God to consume our minds and control our hearts. This book has completely changed the way I look at and approach my health. I never thought to pray about losing weight and making healthier choices! Not because I didn't think God could or would help, but rather because it's all too easy to think that such seemingly petty issues don't matter to God. Well, they do. They matter a lot. Moving forward, I'm sure there will be lots of days when I struggle, but thanks to this book I will be able to have honest conversations with God about my struggles with food and my desire to obey Him. Highly recommend!
