Orwell's novel is a book I have read twice and I enjoyed it both times. The book effectively explores how mass media, surveillance, the government and totalitarianism can affect its citizens in such a way that they can't escape. What is most frightening is how realistic and possible a totalitarian state is. The message of the novel how important it is to resist oppression.

why do British dystopians always have a nursery rhyme involved? it takes me out because it’s juvenile in an otherwise pretty heavy story

A book speculating on a future which is now in the past, makes us skeptical of the present, and could still be a scarey version of the future.

It's hard to know what to rate this since it's not like other books I've read before. The plot isn't really important, and neither are the characters. It's more about what they represent and honestly, it's a bit unnerving how you can see aspects of this extreme version of our own world reflected in our present.
