This book was just ok. I usually don’t log audible originals but I just read an excellent on called moriarty. It was a 10 part radio play the conceit of which was moriarty is being framed and does not start out a criminal. A fresh take on the blurred lines between criminality and policing. Goodreads won’t let me log it so I’m leaving comments here.

This was a straight-up human interest story, fluffy and sentimental. The biggest surprise for me was that Conan-Doyle
Spoilerwas from Scotland
.

Very interesting, but it feels like a docudrama rather than a fun essay.

I did not realize this was originally a podcast which makes so much sense out of the format. Not being able to see the items that they were talking about took away some of my enjoyment. I wanted to see Doyle's nightshirt and pen for myself. Getting to hear that scratchy, ancient, vocal recording was really cool though. I knew Doyle was into spiritualism but didn't know all of the details so that section was also interesting. I may look into some of his not-Sherlockian works as they sounded interesting. Received from Audible as one of their freebies so worth the price of admission.

I didn't know much about Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Very interesting and informative. Odd setup for an audiobook though. Felt like it should have been a documentary instead.

Meh. It was okay.

The Real Sherlock seemed like it would be an interesting choice. Especially since I love absolutely anything and everything that has to deal with Sherlock. I've seen the movies, shows, and read books about him or a character like him. I enjoyed them all.

So you'd think that I would love this one as well, right? WRONG.

From the very beginning, I was bored. Then I just kept waiting, wishing, hoping, and praying that things would pick up. Maybe, just maybe, something super interesting will be said or done and it will spark so much joy for me.

Again, wrong. This book did nothing for me and I'm disappointed.

It was an ok introduction to A. Conan Doyle. I was able to pick up on some trivia and made connections to his work I hadn't done previously. But the narrative style felt a little bit disjointed to me. They would quickly speak on a topic and race off to the next thing. I know that it is a 2 hour program, but maybe they could've focused on bigger themes then. Some of the people who were interviewed had a tendency to mumble, so I missed some of their observations too (like why Doyle was for female education, but not female suffrage). I keep being left disappointed by these quick biography profiles.
