This was my second read, as part of a really informal book club/buddy read. It was my pick, as I figured the person reading with me would really appreciate it. I've found I enjoyed it more the second time around. I've never really been one to annotate books, but I did this time using non destructive methods.

Reading this book knowing I would be discussing it later had me paying attention to a lot of detail. Mostly, I wrote down pages and quotes that were possible talking points for either debate or general discussion on life and how we love it.  I think there is a lot to be said about this book.

Vivid and heartbreaking. A deal with the devil made nuanced by a punchy main characters. Sharp surprised throughout each chapter, and callbacks which keep the reader’s memory as clear as Addie’s. Breaks your heart every few pages, through forgetting and remembering. Surprisingly and painfully relatable for such a far fetched story. Makes you want to feel known and loved in the deepest way.

I wouldn’t say it’s the kinda 5 star that changes your life, but it’s the kind that keeps you entranced all the way through. The story was inviting and enticing, and the ending was perfect for a story of memory. Addie is a compelling main character who’s motives are a bit inhuman which makes her fit her role even better. The book is diverse and just when you think you’ve got it figured out, it’ll turn itself around, always playing the game. This book will keep you in the here and now while still recalling the past. Loved the way it was told and tone it was told in! 😁
