This book was the fortification I needed on Dr. King's weekend in 2017. Even though Prof. Harding wrote these essays in the 1980s, his warnings of how the memory of Dr. King would be co-opted and falsified in the service of militarism, capitalism, and racism are all too real. It's powerful to read those words from someone who was a friend to Martin, as well as an eminent historian and a truly gifted speechwriter.
