I wonder just a little bit if there's something about the way Swedish translated to English that makes me love the writing so dang much, but I'm choosing to believe that this (and other books by other Swedish authors) was just a well written story with complex, morally grey characters and an engaging plot, and THAT is why I spent so many of my sleeping hours over the last day and a half instead devouring this book.

But also I am apparently a sucker for Swedish authors.

E' tempo buttato via..E non parlo della canzone di Masini. Libro di una bruttezza difficile da descrivere. Insulso.

Better that I expected. I would recommend it if you like police/mystery books. Twists and turns, and fun to figure out. Maybe not every scene was totally believable but this fiction genre seldom is.

Good characters, realistic back stories were there for the main characters, and enough smaller side stories to be interesting. If you like Clancy or Ludlum, you will like this.

DNF. 63%. I tried so hard to push through but this is so fucking long and it’s just not interesting. The main dudes motivation makes zero sense and it’s lacking the vileness of the earlier books in the series that made them stand out.

Sent by my scandi-crime friend, but I'm not sure I want to start a series with book 5.

EDIT: Very well done, and such an interesting writing duo.

I am not usually one to get into the crime or suspense novel, but this one definitely held my attention and kept me on the edge of my seat.

Upcoming movie with Rosalind Pike "The Informer" August 2019
I enjoyed reading this book. Lots of action, suspense, and a look inside of how police departments work with informants.
This one will be a good movie I think.

Three Seconds is the fifth novel by Roslund and Hellström to feature Detective Superintendent Ewert Grens. Don’t worry if you haven’t read the previous Grens titles because the real star of Three Seconds is Piet Hoffman. Hoffman is an ex-con turned informant who is caught up in a dangerous attempt to bring down the Polish mafia in Sweden. In order to maintain his cover and learn more, he enters a maximum security Swedish prison. Unfortunately, a drug deal gone bad and the tireless Ewert Grens land him a precarious situation where both the government and the mafia want him dead. Hoffman has only “one chance and three seconds” to make it out of prison alive (quote from back cover of ARC).

Maybe it’s a Swedish thing. I had the same initial reaction to Three Seconds as to Stieg Larsson’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. The story moves slowly at first. Just when you begin to wonder when the thrill will really kick in, it does. Once the action jumps off, it is a non-stop roller coaster ride that keeps you on the edge of your seat. When Piet Hoffman lands in prison, Three Seconds becomes an intense thriller with a plot and resolution sure to satisfy. You’ll also look back at all the background information of the first hundred plus pages with greater understanding through a serious of amazing aha moments. Three Seconds was a bestseller in Sweden and winner of the 2009 Swedish Crime Writers’ award for Best Swedish Crime Novel of the Year. These accolades are well-deserved. Three Seconds has a smart, intricate, well-written plot that I think any thriller or crime novel fan will enjoy.
