This is definitely a minor work, and not hard sci-fi by any stretch, but it's also full of charm. A pleasant time travel romp with a level of cheer and bittersweet optimism that is uncharacteristic of Haldeman.

Like any good sci-fi fan, I love a good time travel story. This book was a light, quick read with a weak finish.

It's definitely at the same level of quality as Koontz's Odd Thomas series - you are left with a "meh" feeling at the end, not really caring about any of the characters and it ends up being part of the white noise that exists in between the reading of really, really good books.

Pretty forgettable.

Chock full of imaginative ideas, this hero's journey takes many unexpected turns. The main character is fully fleshed and keeps the sci-fi grounded to reality in a way that makes this story feel more poignant than many time-travel thought experiments.

This was a fun time travel book--I love the time travel! A guy in the near future who is a grad student at MIT accidentally discovers a project can travel through time. Soon after, he's jumping into the future--and when I say future I mean distant future, thousands of years at a time. With each jump, earth is vastly different than the previous jump. All he wants to do is get back to where he came from--or close to it. Part of the charm of time travel stories to me is the longing to get back to where you came from after you've travelled through time. Fun.

I really enjoyed the book, but it felt lacking in certain aspects which keeps me from giving it four stars. The central love story between Matt and Martha was the high point, highlighting that regardless of their place in space or time their connection to each other was of a different sort. The beginning chapters were very exciting and fun to read, and I was definitely curious as to how this was all going to pan out for Matt. However, once reaching the far future and traveling with La, I sort of lost interest. La just wasn't that threatening of a "villain," and it seemed like a conflict without much
urgency. I would have loved to read more of the future cultures Matt came in contact with, and even more about what had happened during the second coming. Overall, it was enjoyable, but I wish there had been more of it.
