Dense and slow-paced but SO worth it! The characters -especially the children - were exquisitely written.

I don't give up on books. I'm giving up on this one. I cannot stand the writing, although I'm sure there's someone who loves it... Not for me. Moving on.

There aren't very many books that I wish I had not spent time reading. I have to say this is one of the few. I finished it and my first thought was, "what a waste of time". Long, convoluted, completely confusing, leading the reader down one rabbits hole after another with little or no conclusion or explanation. I feel like I spent half the book wondering what in the world I was reading. There is a very real possibility I am not smart enough for a book like this. I like fantasy but this was like some sort of drug fueled Winnie the Pooh hallucinations fantasy. I really, really wanted to like it. I stuck with it for 585 pages and two weeks. It left me feeling irritable and wishing I had spent my time reading something that illuminated my mind or made me laugh. To be honest and not at all eloquent this book sucked.

Dnf'd on page 64. I have lost faith that this will pay off.

Some incredibly good passages. Some great writing about love. Doesn't tie-up well. Some casual sexual assault.
