I really wanted to like this book, I love the PNW island setting, the slow place of life, the quirky characters. I love romance. There was just a lot missing in this story. Brad is the bad guy from the beginning and I felt horrible for Lily having to go through that. There was a lot of background on her life that I felt was barely touched on but important to the story. Brad is horrid to her and then suddenly he's over it and leaves her alone, which didn't make sense to me. Lily's father sends threatening messages and then disappears with no explanation, this was an extra part of the story that really didn't add anything to the story. There's at least once when she go for a pre-dinner glass of wine and the next scene she's greeted with 'good morning.' There was a lot of set up for book 2 and 3 with Kyla and Jude. I liked the characters, they felt real to me. There was just quite a few quirky things that didn't work out in the writing.

A true hidden gem. Sappy and cheesy, yes - but I thoroughly enjoyed every moment and only wanted happiness for all those involved.

This was fine.

Its a wholesome romance, nothing dramatic or really nasty happens you think it may and I kind of wanted it to. It needed something to happen, it just plods along and they live happy ever after and that is nice. I just felt it was missing something.

This book was pretty good. Light reading. Well written. There are some oddities in the book. There are a couple of characters that randomly appear that never contribute anything to the story. It's a bit of a mystery why they are there at all. The story is a bit sweet for me. Everything works out in the end a little too neatly. I like the book but I'm not sure I'll read the rest of the series.

A light and sweet story, quick read. I especially like how she bakes for others to share her love. Cookies and brownies are the perfect comfort food

brad and lily are married lily is psychologically under the thumb until the night she leaves brad in order to take possession of the home her grandmother left her
]The rest you could probably write yourself with a blindfold on and 2 arms tied behind your back. It s predictability is unnerving

the whole made me nauseous

The premise for this book was good, but the writing was too forced. Major conflicts were resolved in ridiculously easy ways that would never happen in the real world. There were huge gaps in much of the plot and the flow was choppy.

I am of two minds when reviewing this book. On the one hand I love the characters and how they grow and develop throughout the story. This is not only a romance, but also a tale of family and friendship. The bonds created by these characters seem very real. They are compelling, and draw you into island life. I found myself wondering what it would be like to move to an island like that.
The scenery, the island the lifestyle - picture perfect.
On the other hand...
I did find this story difficult to follow at times. The author seemed to jump around In time, without clearly demonstrating flashbacks or fast forwards. One scene was day, then the sun was setting. Lily called Ian and the phone was answered by Jason - wide awake and ready to talk to her. After getting off the phone Ian was waking Jason, despite it clearly being a brief call. If only my kids fell asleep that quickly!
There were a few too many loose ends as well. At times I felt this was a sales pitch to buy the next book just to see what happens. At other times it felt like the author had an idea, but wasn't sure how to run with it so she just dropped it. (Seriously, a run-away father trying to blackmail his daughter and NOTHING comes of it? )
So much more potential for this book!
