Excellently crafted story with a character driven plot. I thought it was carefully suspenseful and very creepy!

A classic! Jackson’s writing is top tier for me, and the way she delves into the psyches of her characters is so fascinating. I’ve met an Eleanor in my time, I’ve been Eleanor, with her preoccupation with herself and what others think of her, the way her mind tries to convince her of things that may not be true. Jackson’s analysis of her slowly unraveling main character is exhilarating and horrifying to watch. Maybe the ghosts were actually the madness we fell into along the way…?
