I read this book when it was first released, but could not recall a single detail other than the fact that it made me cry (which was - apparently - sufficient reason to haul it from apartment to apartment in the years since). The upcoming movie inspired a re-read...and even more tears. It's an imperfect novel, one that - as many others have stated - dips into the gimmicky and pretentious at times, but extremely moving and incredibly well-written (zing!) all the same.

I liked all the individual stories of this book, but I didn't like how they came together as much. I really loved Oscar's stories and kept wishing for his sections. Sad, sad book. I think I'm ready for something a little more upbeat!

Breathtakingly perfect. This is a devastating, dramatic and intriguing novel. The details and the characters are so well developed that you will laugh, cry and love this novel. I cannot praise it enough and it had been sitting on my bookshelf for many years before I picked it up one day, sat down and didn't even get up until I was half way through the book.
