My introduction to Everson's work, and I will definitely be reading more. Not a light read, but I enjoyed it immensely. Quite bloody and gory, but unlike many horror novels that I've read, it actually has a plot behind all that killing.

In a sleepy town, the old haunted hotel has started functioning again as an asylum for battered and insane pregnant women. But a few residents from the town are not so sure that the women are mad or that the place is actually an asylum. Filled with characters that you either love or hate, but are along with the whole time, and an excellent plot twist at the end. A well done novel, and a great read!

I wasn't overly impressed with this story. It didn't feel very scary or interesting for that matter, and some story elements were laughably absurd in terms of characterization. The book has some decent bloodshed here and there but mostly focuses on "demonic"and sinister orgies...

The prologue kicked off the book with a bang and it just continued from there. Very gruesome, you have your violence, gore and requisite love interest. Couldn't put it down
