Three cute lil spooky stories – short and sweet, exactly what I needed for a stormy night. The first story I admit I found quite hard to follow, but the succeeding two were quite engrossing when the sentences didn't run on too long. I found that things really picked up towards the end of the stories when there wasn't excess time spent on exposition. The last few paragraphs of each of these stories were what really stuck. A nice quick read, and as the title states, most effectively consumed at nightfall.

This is the first Little Black Classic that I have read and honestly I loved this. 'To be read at dusk' contains 3 short stories, many of which I have not heard of, and all three stories captured my attention and, even though dark, made their way into my heart.
I definitely recommend this title as an intro into Dickens, especially for those who are not yet ready to tackle his bigger works of fiction.

A fun little ghost story - and very different to the ghosts of A Christmas Carol. Atmospheric and enigmatic

The title story either was really boring or I didn't catch the twist. I much preferred the follow-up entitled The Signalman, I thought I knew where it was going but I was wrong and the ending managed to spook me. The last story, The Trial for Murder, was unsettling throughout reading but I didn't care for the final 'twist'.
