If Paul had just communicated with the people he was trying to protect, none of the conflict would have happened in the first place! But hey, he made a mistake! That’s what happens in books! Surely he’ll learn from this experience and grow as a charact-NOPE! Even when he literally thinks that his mentor/father figure is DEAD because of his lack of communication, he still refuses to tell Marguerite the information registering her part in this whole conflict. The only reason he tells her ANYTHING is because she threatens her own safety if he doesn’t come clean. AND HE DOESN’T EVEN COME CLEAN EVEN WHEN HE’S SENDING HER TO ANOTHER DIMENSION TO FIND HER FATHER AND HE DOESN’T EVEN TELL HER HE’S THERE PAUL WHAT THE HELL-Anyways…
I liked the ending, mostly because it

punished Theo, whom I’d found especially annoying throughout the book,HOWEVER
This book did make me reflect on the important relationships in my life. The way the book handles grief, and how Marguerite learns to appreciate the small moments with those you love, was really beautiful. If you dig through the patronizing love triangle, you find a heartwarming lesson that everyone should learn. I just wish I didn’t have to do so much digging.
In conclusion, if you wish Twilight focused more on familial relations and quantum theory, this is the book for you. That is all.

But it wasn't. I had some problems when reading. Almost everything felt so rushed, I couldn't bond with the protagonists or any of the other characters. Marguerite rushed from one dimension into the next without thinking what she's leaving behind or what she just did with the life of that dimension's Marguerite. The pacing wasn't good, there could have been more detail, especially about the past or her relationships in her home dimension, and I was missing the parts where she actually slowed down to consider her options instead of just tackling the things as they come.
Spoiler
She had so much time to think about everything when she was in Russia! What did she do all day?!At first I was also thinking that the plot maybe wasn't as detailed because the scenes with the love interest would be... But they weren't. Nothing was described on detail in any part of the story, definitely not the show don't tell I was expecting.
Spoiler
I'm also sick of the love interest being the tall and muscular guy who knows everything and her just being cluelessThe story just didn't come to life for me, like I already said, this book had much potential but didn't rise up to my expectations.

I guess I could have read the blurb a little better, but I didn’t, and I’ve been duped! This wasn’t a sci-fi/alternate-dimension-traveling/universe-expanding book. It was a romance! It was a romance book thinly veiled as science fiction. It felt more like time travel, too, and less like alternate universes since the biggest part was set in czar-ruled Russia. And don’t get me started on the Russia section (And also, the Russia section has a bad part).
I also didn’t realize it would be a series. Clearly I should have done my homework better before reading—listening—to this book (but should we have to do our homework to enjoy a book? I think not).
You know, now that I know the book isn’t as much sci-fi as a romance book, the title makes a lot more sense. It didn’t confuse me for a while there. “A Thousand Pieces of You” sounds a lot more like a time-traveling (even though it was clarified several times that they did *not* time travel. They dimension hopped) fated love story than a action-filled sci-fi.
Also, one thing about the audio... I didn’t love the Russian accents?
All that being said, I did finish it all. So ... 2.75 stars I’d say.

but it very quickly turns into something completely different than what's in the blurbI do have some problems with this book. First of all, like half the book is spend in the second dimension they visit. Sure we got some character development and romance but I was hoping to move on more quickly from there and explore more alternative dimensions. Second, WHY ARE THEY SO CARELESS WITH THEIR ALTERNATIVE DIMENSION VERSIONS OF THEMSELVES??? This pisses me off!
Spoiler
especially in the Russian dimension. Our Marguerite literally might've gotten A ROYAL pregnant with her bodyguard??? And she only thinks about this ONCE. she felt so bad for Lieutenant Markov but didn't give a shit about that dimensions Marguerite?? Wooooow. There's also the freaking love triangle because of course there is. However it didn't bother me that much. It's quite obvious who she ends up with from the beginning.
Despite these flaws I loved this book! I'm definitely going to read the sequels.
