Gorgeous finale for the character arc. The actual plot, with the Sons of the Serpent, continues to be meh. But the character arc carries the book, so there it is.
Also, the Elektra cameo is THE most pointless cameo I've ever seen, and, hell, there are a lot of cameos in Marvel comics.

Mark Waid's Daredevil story involving a white supremacist group that has infiltrated the New York Police Department and Judicial System was a wild, timely, wonderful idea. It's a damn shame that he watered it down with spooky magic nonsense. There is no place in this story for the Legion Of Monsters or a sacred book that reveals Satan is at the core of white supremacy.

Snore.

I hope Waid is embarrassed by this cop out when he looks back at it. He has a several page speech given by one character about togetherness and not being blinded by hatred but keeping an eye on the people who would have you blame your problems on people of other beliefs and racists, but it all means nothing because these people aren't anything like the real racists in places of power, they're spooky magic inspired racists for Satan.

I get it that this is a comic book and, especially in the last ten or fifteen years, there have been a wave of angry comic readers who claim they don't want politics in their comics (but they usually mean progressive politics), forgetting that Captain America was punching Nazis in the forties, and that X-Men, like Star Trek, was founded to be entertainment about inclusion and peaceful existence with people who don't fit with The Great White American Norms Of Society.

I wish Waid had either gone much further with the infiltration angle, and dumped the hocus pocus/Christian symbology nonsense, or else not bothered to make this at all.

I've worked in comic book store for decades, and I can tell you with confidence that almost all the old bigots who complain about diversity stopped reading Marvel decades ago, and only buy DC (but they stopped buying Batman when they heard he and one of his Robins might be bi).

I really enjoyed the first half of Waid's run, and I'm pretty sad that it washed out this way.

I'm not optimistic about his relocating Daredevil to California, but I know I have to get through that and the Charles Soule run before I can get to Zdarsky's masterful rescue of this floundering series.

It's not that the book is without flaws. The monsters in Kentucky were a bit over the top. And much of the Sons of the Serpent story just aren't detailed enough to be appreciated. But the book and the story-line have a trajectory. And the events in this book have been earned and make sense and that makes it a better read. So presumably on to California. 3.5 of 5.

Satisfying (but not mindblowing) end to the first part of Mark Waid writing Daredevil. Enjoyed it so far, eager to read the second part

I didn't enjoy the whole fantasy/voodoo/serpent thing, was a little tired of reading about the bigoted serpent group, and the ending felt rushed, but it was good in the end.

Interesting way to wrap up Daredevil before the soft reboot and move to San Fran, but the impact is more legal than just taking down costumed baddies. And bringing the supernatural into the world of Daredevil is certainly a good twist.
