“The ignorant are always cock sure, but the intelligent are filled with doubt.”

I was riveted from the start of this book when the MC found out her estranged mother, likely killed her father and now she would need to see over her care.
This is only the beginning! The twists and turns kept coming leaving me astonished and impressed.
I am so excited that there will be a sequel to this suspenseful, family, land and community drama with a hope of finding treasure at play.

Thank you to @suzyapprovedbooktours for having me on tour.

The Secret Field is a well written story with some interesting twists! Once I started reading this I was sucked right in! The characters are well developed. I really enjoyed Kari. The way her character develops makes it easy to connect with her and the changes she makes were nice to see. There were a few unexpected twists. It was nice to be surprised! I would definitely be interested in another book with these characters. Overall it was a compelling page turner!

Thank you Kate Rock Tours and Susan Dennis for sharing a great story with me!

I did find that this story did suck me in that I could not stop reading. The first opening scene was tragic and one that grabs your attention quickly. From there I could not wait to see how the story would progress.

In the beginning, I liked Kari and felt for her but to be honest, she came off a bit "mousey". Yet, the further the story went on, Kari did blossom and become stronger. It was a nice progression that allowed me to get closer to her. The other characters were prominent players in this story as well. No one felt like they were third string. Overall, I did enjoy this book and would read another by this author.

This was a well written character driven story that held my interest and was a quick read.
Kari lives on her ranch that was once part of the Raintree Plantation. She shares her home with her two dogs and cat. She suffers from horrible panic attacks she takes home remedies such as teas and some medications to help her work through them. When some dangerous activity begins to happen on her property, always a loner Kari is forced to speak to her neighbors. Lurking in the background at Raintree is the former owner Reggie Raintree and he believes some gold coins called The Lost Love Coin and thamaps shows it location to be possibly hidden on what is now Karis land. He will stop at nothing to find this buried gold. Reggie and along with his new Russian bride who he found on a foreign bride website, are doing everything to get Kari off the land, which includes stalking, bribing, and even steal her pets. Kari who always considered herself weak must look inside and find the strength that’s buried within, and find the gold before they do. This was a great story and I truly enjoyed it!

This novel was a tangled web of diverse characters that I would have never cast together, and a mess of finger pointing but it all fit together and made for a few laughs and the thriller of trying to figure out what is happening. Kari has a mess of a life she is trying to piece back together and as she is finally starting to let her guard slowly down, it seems one thing after another is happening and pushing her further and further out of her comfort zone and the normal life she tried creating for herself. Having put her mother in an institution and buying herself a little house and piece of land out in the middle of nowhere, she thought she could retreat into herself and be left alone for once. But life had other plans, as well as the very diverse characters she gets acquainted with. Not any fault of her own, but Kari's house may no longer be that safe piece of haven and now she is fighting to keep what she has worked so hard to obtain. But someone has another agenda in mind, and it all lies in historic gossip that may not even hold true from when her piece of land was part of a large plantation, and a mysterious photo of coin so rare, that its worth is not even calculable. Tons of strange acting cats have been on her property, her mother gets dumped on her doorstep, and an unexpected roommate has also wound himself into her life, on the brink of a break down Kari no longer knows what is truth, what is fiction and who to trust. One of my favorite lines in this novel is a theme throughout.

"The ignorant are always cock sure, but the intelligent are filled with doubt." - Susan Dennis.

Thank you to the author for the free novel and Suzy Approved Book Tours for the invite, I enjoyed the mishmash of characters that helped play out this novel.

My thoughts: This page-turner has one of the most original storylines I have read! The book opens with a scene that promises to immediately hook the reader in, and from there, the suspense builds to a dramatic climax! I went into this story blind, and so I provided the vaguest of summaries! Read this if you enjoy a good mystery.

When Kari Bell buys a rundown ranch house surrounded by pasture and woodland at the end of an isolated rural road she thinks she has found the perfect place to be alone. For awhile, she enjoys a peaceful existence with only her two corgis and a Siamese cat for company. Then, in a single nightly dog walk, her fragile state of calm is gutted by a viscous attack on her life!

Soon Kari finds out her property was once part of a larger estate. The heir, Reggie Raintree has returned and he is determined to locate and excavate ancient gold coins and he wants Kari’s land back…no matter what the cost!

My sincere thanks to @katerocksbooktours and @_susandennis_ for my gifted copy. My thoughts are my own.

"The Secret Field" was a fast paced story for me as I got to know Kari and her neighbors.  The mystery of the events occuring near Kari's house and around town kept me wanting to know more!  I found that Kari was a likeable character and I was invested in her outcome throughout.  I also enjoyed how she found a family and support system.  Along with the mystery, there were glimpses into environmental law which was interesting to read.  Thank you to Susan Dennis and Kate Rock Book Tours for an advanced copy!  All thoughts and opinions are my own!
