An interesting horror story following the aftereffects of a worldwide plague that an Evangelical Christian group unleashed on the world that has wiped out most of humanity. We follow Benji, a trans teen who is slowly metamorphosing into a monster who will be the vector of a new deadly version of the virus and can control the quasi-zombie things that have transformed most of the world, as he escapes the Evangelical cult that destroyed the world. He finds a group of teens hiding in a former-LGBTQ+ center who are fighting to stay safe and things get even wilder from there. The pacing is a bit fast for my tastes, and I felt like beyond Benji, Theo, and Nick the characters didn't have a ton of depth, but that might just be me aging out of how a lot of YA treats its world-building.

Loved the imagery, very religious tones there. Very queer which was nice. Wish it was more in-depth/ had more of an exploration of the world. I find it very interesting but wish there was more.

First of all, stunning cover.
Now on to my review, the first half of this book doesn’t have as much action as I would have liked. But things were picked up in the second half.

But one thing was left open and it’s bugging me: what the hell happened to Calvin in the end?

Dark, apocalyptic, gory, LGBTQ+, religious trauma, love, abuse and autism with a transmasc protag. Good book that keeps you hooked, especially the last chunk of it. Recommended!
