Deliciously fun and campy just like a zombie thriller should be. It definitely wishes it were a movie instead of a book. I enjoyed all the characters and am so glad to see a thoughtful depiction of fat characters who are nuanced and interesting and capable and flawed and heroic and so many different things.

I loved this book. Usually I don't like zombie stuff because 1. I don't find them scary and 2. They are just mindless hordes of cannon fodder. This book had neither of these issues for me.
The zombies were terrifying! Nothing like a super strong, super fast undead killing machine. But also they weren't just one mindless mass. They were humanized in the kind of mindset that doesn't just follow a kick-ass military protagonist who finally has his time to shine type of way. Instead there is the tragedy of yeah, these were people with unlimited human potential.
The main ensemble were fantastic as well. For this book literally telling you at the beginning what stereotype these characters were and what was probably going to happen to them, they still felt 3 dimensional and capable of anything. I really didn't want any of them to die.
The pacing I really enjoyed as well. It almost had a slower suspenseful beginning, then the last two-thirds its a non-stop action adventure.
The theme of the story is obvious, they literally spell it out for you. But somehow it doesn't feel pretentious or hand-holding.
I sometimes have a hard time suspending my disbelief when reading something so out there, but this story had enough of an in-world explanation laid out like a mystery sub-plot, that I was able to just enjoy the ride. All of which helped flesh out the central theme and made the world feel real.
A very fun story with a lot of heart. And amazing representation for people like me which is always lovely.
