1) I picked up this book because it had a fat MC who kicks ass- honestly I didn’t have toooo high of hopes for it and perhaps that made it even better. The story itself is told from multiple perspectives (way more than 2) and at first I found that a little irritating. Moving forward in the story however it proved to be a tactful story telling device and really built that necessary connections for the cast of characters.
2) The story primarily focuses on the crisis at hand but it does also try and fit in a romance. Admittedly I don’t feel it really added to the story but I guess it didn’t detract either- though he really could have been left out together.
3) The beginning of the book feels a bit predictable but pretty quickly it takes a twist and if you’re anything like me you’ve pretty much relinquished all control and let the story drive itself- I honestly couldn’t predict much after the first 1/3 of the book.
4) At no point did I have a solid grasp of what the characters looked like. I may have just missed that from their descriptions or their descriptions were pretty sparse. Aside from the book cover I had a hard time visualizing the characters
TLDR; the book was great! A solid “zombie” story with a sizable cast of characters. Is it the best zombie/horror tale out there? I don’t know. Was it a lot of fun and interesting? YES!

[audiobook]
i enjoyed this a lot, and i was surprised at the amount of depth it managed to pack in 10 hours. it was pretty fast-paced, which i didn't mind at the start -- i appreciated that it got into the action/central plot almost right away, and that we didn't have to suffer through the actual camp program shit. the horror movie archetypes also set the structure for the group pretty well, though i got a little tired of it by the end of the book. i also really appreciate thatthe cause/biology of the zombies was explored as well. it was really interesting to consider what happens to these people after they turn? are they lost forever? . the ending was bittersweet, but not unsurprising. i think deVos did exactly what she set out to do with this book.

Thank you to Netgalley and Penguin Teen for an arc of this book.
When Vivi is sent to a fat camp over winter break, she discovers even more problems with it than the obvious fatphobia--the weight-loss bars they are giving the campers have...dire side-effects. On top of that, it's the worst snow storm Arizona has seen, and the power at camp is out. Mix that with the other members of her pod--her ex-best friend, a rich jerk, a geek, and a pregnant girl. At least there's the hot pod facilitator. All of these factors combine for a harrowing winter vacation.
This book was delightful! I didn't know a lot of what to expect going in, but was super excited for a fat MC kicking some zombie butt. I was absolutely not disappointed on that front, but also got excellent character growth and insight, 6 excellent pov's, hilarious jokes and commentary, and all the gore and horror!
I thought this was going to be completely humor and not at all horror, but I was wrong. This legitimately scared me at times and kept me up way past my bedtime! I was pleasantly surprised!
