The main character doesn't seem to have a lot of agency in the book

God-punk, urban fantasy, set in Nigeria. Wish this were a series. Better than Jim Butcher.

Feel kinda bad for the rating but it is what it is. The core conflict of the book is a struggle between gods and humans (to put it incredibly simply) and I think I'm finding I don't really care about those stories anymore. There's just too many logistics I think about and things I wonder.

As the book was, I wish we got to see how the world was operating after the Fall and just more of the characters outside of the action scenes they were placed into.

I loved the general idea of this book and enjoyed the setting. The main character is something i struggled with. Good thing: he is definitely no Mary Sue. Unfortunately, he is mainly pushed around by the events, his main skill is getting captured and the one time he acts voluntaritly is when everyone around him is telling him to stop because he is being stupid. That made it hard for me to root for him and lessened my enjoyment of the story considerably.

Put this down, picked it up - a few times. LOTS of fight scenes which I have a hard time visualizing (I do with any book). But interesting to think about the gods/world in that light, to reflect on the characters and the decisions they make. And they stuck with me, all of them. His next series is in a different setting, but I hope he comes back to this one at some point - I'd like to read more and it definitely feels like there could be.
